The Mandala Challenge:
An Artist’s Quest

Why Mandalas?

Well, I’ll start with the definition of mandala; mandala means circle in Sanskrit and derives from the root manda, meaning essence, to which the suffix la, meaning container, has been added.  This seemed like the perfect “container” for an artistic challenge.  I want to push myself to a practice–of exploring the creative process and getting centered while at the same time breaking out of the box (or should I say circle). I want process to play as big of a role as product in this journey. Here are my four core precepts: CREATE, PRACTICE, EXPLORE, INVITE.

My posts talk of art and life and life and art and how the two mix and mingle, your comments add to the wisdom and open up new angles on the themes I’m wrestling with.  Together we will create something new and interesting, and perhaps encourage thoughtful life filled with random acts of art and kindness.

    I love this!

All of your inspiration objects so far are spherical and somewhat symmetrical. Intentional (starting from the mandala concept maybe?), or unintentional (starting from some unknown place in your soul)?
